Spring in Montgomery County, NY

Spring time is when the snow has melted away, flowers begin to bloom, and summer feels like it’s the closest it has ever been. This is the time of the year when everyone looks forward to being outside fishing at the river, gathering the family together and hiking through the change of the season, boating, and visiting the local farm markets for fresh vegetables and fruits. This is a great time to stop by the Charleston State Forest it is terrific for anyone who likes outdoor pursuits. Stroll or bike down the Canalway Trail to witness the blossoming of the season.

Spring is the opening season for most attractions in Montgomery County, such as the Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs, Old Fort Johnson, Fonda Speedway, and Twister Valley Sports Complex. The Wintergreen Gorge is a magnificent natural landscape of reflecting pools, waterfalls, nature trails, and picnic areas and a great place to while away some time during the beautiful change of seasons. The opening season brings spring festivals with lots of events, games, and crafts.

While fishing is permitted year round please refer to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for Angling Regulations, opening days and locations. Montgomery County is located in Region 4 and special regulations may apply. Spring fish stocking occurs in April.
