The Revolutionary War in Montgomery County, NY

The American Revolution (1775–1783) brought more warfare through Montgomery County then part of Tryon County.  Various battles continued throughout the region offering significant changes.  1776 brought the organization of the Tryon County Militia.  Fort Plain was made military headquarters for the Middle Mohawk Valley in 1780.  1780 also brought the Canajoharie Raid by Captain Joseph Brant and his warriors burning homes, farms and crops.  1783 marks General George Washington’s visit to the Mohawk Valley.
